Golf
Producing healthy turf that is less susceptible to insects and disease requires measured inputs and a focus on improving plant and soil health in unison. No one specific product is going to be the
“silver bullet”.
In the golf industry, a product-based approach is adopted.
The challenge with this model is that it can lead to symptom-based treatments, rather than a systematically addressing the underlying causes.
When partnering with a golf course superintendent, we focus on sound fundamentals:
1. Create a Baseline
By utilizing innovative testing techniques, we can help you evaluate nutrient availability and microbial biomass.
2. Identify Limiting Factors
Discover the hurdles to turf health and the root causes of the challenges faced on the property.
3. Create a Plan
Work with the superintendent to create a plan that will restore balance in the soil and health to the plant.
4. Continue to Test
Regularly monitor plant and soil health while utilizing data to pivot the program when needed.
Growing healthy, resilient turf in a sustainable way starts with the soil and requires a three-pronged approach – we often use the three-legged stool analogy. The three legs are generally considered to be:
- Chemical properties (pH, Eh, and inputs)
- Physical (soil type, structure, and mineral makeup)
- Biological (microbial communities)
All three must be in balance and equally prioritized to allow for a fully functional system. When any one of the three legs of the stool is out of balance with the others, the system will be out of symmetry and more susceptible to environmental stressors.
Employing a combination of innovative and established techniques, EBI can help you produce a resilient stand of turf from the soil up.
